Was supposed to be the newport half today but that was cancelled due to the snow so I decided 1.5 hours hilly was a good alternative

Very hard run!

Very very hard, hilly (steep0, big steps, slippy rocks, slippy stodgy mud, everything! I set off in the 2nd wave, but into the second lap there were only a few runners ahead. I didn't think they were from my wave so I thought I might be near the front. I pushed hard, and finally overtook the last person I could see in front about half a k from the end, and then ran frightened of being caught up. In the end I was 20-odd seconds faster than 2nd place. No trophy, but a £30 running shop voucher - happy days

Only the tinyest bits of snow and ice, nothing to slow me down. No wind either, but very foggy in places so tricky to see terrain for fast moving. Set off literally dead last, caught up with the race leader on the first hill, ran with him for a mile maybe, to just beneath the first saddle then I was all on my own for the rest. I kept looking behind expecting to see lights but in the end 2nd place finished 29 minutes behind! Slightly different route this year too, we didn't go up corn ddu (due to the mist/fog?), so less elevation gained but slightly longer route. The very steep climb up from the resevoir was as boggy as last year, but they've built a rock path from the top downwards, which I found maybe half way up and that turned a sludgy climb into a staircase which will have helped too.

Quite a lot of flat grassy miles where the pace was good, but some steep downs and very muddy steep climbs. Enjoyable but hard! Think I was third in my wave.
Trail - Craig yr Allt Fell Race - 20150124 Craig yr Allt 24 Jan 15 13:58 36:06 3.796 6.31 9:31 168 175 8:39 373view on os maps 9:08  8:39  11:34  8:31 X-Talon 212 A short but very tough race. Started off up a steep tarmac road then turned offroad up a hill. Single file at the start so forced to walk (luckily) but once on top there was room to pass people. Once we got to the summit we turned right and ran straight down the side of the hill - no path, just straight down. It was then muddy round the bottom before clibing back up (had to walk bits, too knackered). Going back down was steep and muddy - the XTalons were a good choice. There was a flat bit along the taff trail and then a long long climb back up to the top, again I had to walk a lot of it, and then a final run down to the finish. Very enjoyable! Only cost £5 too.
Trail - Relish Running Bath Skyline 10k trail run 2 09 Feb 14 11:03 53:08 6.682 7.55 7:57 167 176 6:45 119view on os maps 6:45  7:47  8:37  7:54  7:19  9:34  7:39 X-Talon 212 It was a very wet windy drive over to Bath, but duringthe  actual run it only rained very lightly for the last minute or so. The ground however was extremely muddy, worse than the previous run. Had to run through big muddy puddles so legs were covered in mud and feet were wet, but I wore sealskin socks with the Innov8 shoes and my feet were fine (they were wet when I changed but warm and clean, and not white. Wore cycling leg warmers (which did slowly work their way down my legs so I had to pull them up a couple of times), Nike shorts, Adli white compression top and Rab vaporlight blue top. Also had thin black gloves and white running cap. Was very comfortable for the whole race. The weather could have turned nasty (it did blow very hard  with slushy hail 5 minutes after I finished) so I nearly wore my new OMM black waterproof smock, but glad I didnt as I think I would have been too hot. I possibly set off too fast at the start, and it was hard all the way round. After a few kms we settled into our positions, but slowly people overtook me. I traded places with an older guy several times but in the end he beat me by 30+ seconds. We had to go up the steep muddy/rocky hill we'd come down last time, and everyone walked, it really was steep and hard work, and the hr couldnt recover. I got a stitch at the top on the second lap and it took a while for that to go. By that point I was knackered and was happy just to finish.
Trail - 20140119 Relish Running Bath Skyline 10k trail run 19 Jan 14 11:01 51:07 6.674 7.83 7:40 170 178 6:50 110view on os maps 6:50  7:33  8:12  7:39  7:44  8:19  7:11 X-Talon 212 No wind, 3 degrees, blue sky. Wore t-shirt and shorts, thin black socks and new Innov-8 X-Talon 212's. Was perfectly comfortable for the entire race temperature wise. A very hard run. Hilly (up) from the start (possibly went out a little fast), then down, then back up, then some superbly techy muddy steep rocky off-path stuff between 3km and 4km, and a final 1.5ish km of flatish grass to finish the lap (2 lap race). The first lap was hard, but the 2nd climb of the second lap was brutally slow, felt like I was barely moving, but no-one overtook me so everyone was struggling by then. Caught a group in the last 2km's, but at the very end had nothing left and they all sprinted over the line ahead of me. Definately not as fit as I was last year, my breathing and legs both suffered from 6 weeks off with bad knee. Shoes were brilliant. So many other unners were slipping and a few fell over, but I never slipped once - the grip on the wet/muddy grass was briliant - very good choice (but £95!).  Dan then did his first ever run - 300m (my gps on my wrist reckoned a bit more, I ran beside him) and came 6th out of 15. He did start crying 3 quartes of the way round but he never stoped running and proudly wore his medal all day at the zoo afterwards. His offical time was 2:54
