(writing this over two weeks after the event so memory isn't 100%)

Swim

The water temperature was fine. I'd got vaseline onto the lense of my goggles so couldn't see brilliantly but I positioned myself pretty much at the front but to the far left of my wave, and set off. No problem with other swimmers until rounding the first bouy, but I did go purposefully wide so barely touched anyone. I felt that I swam a non-direct first leg, going too far right. The rest of the first lap was fine, and I carried on into the second lap. I think that was a bit straighter but I was still going quite wide at the bouys so perhaps losing some seconds at each (I could see people undertaking me!)

T1

I was a bit wobbly coming out of the water and had to grab the hand of the helper, but then I was away up the ramp and quickly had the suit down around my waist. The run was a couple hundred meters maybe, and the last half was on pretty knobbly tarmac that hurt my feet. I found my bike no probs and I think I actually managed to stay standng to get the suit off and shoes on.

Bike

Fast! I was on it from the start and after the first lap I felt good and just kept working hard.I was overtaking loads but due to the 4 waves I had no idea where I was position wise. Very few people overtook me. I worked hard on the bike all the way to the very end.

T2

After maving bleeding feet at Porthcawl two weeks earlier when I ran sockless with my new Saucony type A6 shoes I'd decided to put socks on. I can't remember for sure but I think I put them on after the bike, so T2 took longer than normal.

Run

Very hard. I set off at a good pace but it turned out to be slower than 7 min/mile and I just couldn't run faster. My hr shows that I was trying, but I think I'd simply done the bike so hard that my legs weren't up for a fast ran after. I think I had two gels during the run. I was very glad when I finished!
